Why I’m Running

I am running for the Maplewood Township Committee to:

  • Make our streets safer,
  • Make transportation more accessible and equitable,
  • Strengthen the arts and culture in our town,
  • Create better ways for people to connect,
  • Keep Maplewood a safe place for everyone who calls it home, regardless of their age, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic status.

I love Maplewood, and I am ready to drive change that will better our community. To learn more about my priorities, click here.

About Me

I’m Max Kravitz, a third-generation MAPSO native and lifelong Maplewood resident. I’m running for the Maplewood Township Committee because I’m committed to serving the community that raised me and to getting things done for the people who call this town home.

My roots in Maplewood run deep. My grandparents founded Performers Theatre Workshop, the longest-running performing arts school in the area, and my parents continue to run it today. I grew up working in the family business, gaining firsthand experience in managing competing priorities, working through challenges as part of a team, and making decisions that balance vision with real-world needs.

Public service has always been central to my life. I began my involvement in local government as a teenager on the Youth Advisory Committee and now serve on the Maplewood Arts Council, where I work to promote cultural programming and community engagement. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of how our local government functions and how it can better serve residents of all backgrounds.

At Columbia High School, I founded BeatFest, New Jersey’s first student-led music festival, which continues to provide young artists with meaningful performance opportunities. I’m always getting involved locally through work with groups like SOMA Action, Maplewoodstock, and the Achieve Foundation.

I understand Maplewood. Its values, its culture, and its people. I’m running because I believe we need leadership that’s transparent, inclusive, and understands our local government and local organizations. I’m ready to listen, to lead, and to work hard for a stronger Maplewood!
